Make-Up

Because I missed my blog last week I decided to reevaluate myself and turn my attitude around. I’ve been getting kind of slack and I need to step it up and make some changes. This past week we started our model lessons and it was pretty cool to see my piers up there teaching us. I could tell that my classmates were very comfortable in front of us. I was really worried about Raven and I getting our lesson together but hopefully it will turn out well. I have a competition in Dallas this weekend so I am trying to plan ahead and think about what I want to teach about. My life has been a little stressful lately due to all these basketball games and practices so I need to manage my time better.I can not wait to really get into my field experience and teach my students. I found a great quote by George Washington Carver that says, “Education is the key to unlockĀ  the golden door of freedom.” I think this quote is perfect for black history month because so many of my ancestors fought to learn and better themselves in order to gain a good education. My class also got to go to the elementary schools and observe some of the classes. It was interesting to see all of the new innovative technology that today’s children get to take advantage of. I never got to experience all of the things that children today get to. It will be exciting to see if I can keep up with things like “Smart boards”. Ashley read a book that talked about constructive criticism. It always good to tell kids how to change things to help them grow. Many people have trouble taking criticism softly, so it is good to teach children how to handle it at an early age. This week in educational news, I found out that the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation recently awarded $19.5 million dollars towards the development of new education resources and assessment. It is awesome to see people who are blessed share and give to the community.
